It's easy to get carried away in Silly Season. The team's form this last campaign hasn't cooled down the fans, either. But manager Arsène Wenger has moved to douse the fire.
"I feel we will have a very quiet summer on the transfer market because there is a huge crisis that is hitting Europe, and that there will be very little movement," Wenger said in yesterday's pre-match press briefing.
Quoted in the Guardian, Wenger makes the inevitable point that having Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby back from injury will be like new signings. And when all the loanees return, the first team squad will have 34 players. "That means you have to pay nine not to play," Wenger said of the Premier League's 25-man rule.
The whole point of this blog is to be realistic about Arsenal transfer rumours while the list of targets grow and grow. This summer, us Gooners will need an even more cynical approach to the many wild stories around.
