I was reminded on Twitter (by @REDactionAFC) that it's ten years ago that Sol Campbell first signed for Arsenal. The free transfer from Tottenham came as an absolute shock to everyone in English football, Gooners included.
The first rumour of Campbell had emerged just the day before, if my memory serves me right. It used to be typical of Wenger: a signing out of the blue without the fanfare of agents and club servants bleating anonymously in the media beforehand.
These days, keeping a signing like that under wraps is impossible.
PS Read further down the BBC story I've linked to. It says Arsenal are struggling to keep Patrick Vieira. In 2001. Just saying.
