- Three senior players, a raft of youngsters

Some rumour-mongerers are worse than others, and the Daily Mirror write and repeat an exceptional number of Arsenal stories each Silly Season. However, their football and Arsenal correspondent John Cross has a reputation for getting his facts right when it comes to the club. At least, more often than most of the other correspondents...

Today, Cross reports the usual list of ins and outs, repeated just about every day on their website. However, one of the final sentences in a repetitive report is interesting: his sources indicate that not only will Arsenal sign 'at least three senior players' but also introduce 'a whole new raft of youngsters'.

This sounds like Arsène Wenger to me. Especially when the headline of the story is 'Wenger is ready to clear the decks'... At least six current first team players will be sold or leave.

No wonder that so much ink - real or virtual - is spent on rumours about Arsenal selling stars instead of buying them.

[Added:] Jeorge Bird's Arsenal Youth blog has more on the youngsters pushing the hardest for places in next season's first team squad.
