Is it a train? Or is it the transfer window closing up ahead?
The last weeks of this Silly Season have seen fewer and fewer new rumours, and more and more repeats. Today and yesterday have been especially unimaginative. Only today, the Daily Mail website runs four independent news items all linking Arsenal with Sébastien Squillaci. That is a record for this blog (see all rumours here, chronologically sorted for each supposed target).
The selling rumour of the summer is of course Cesc Fábregas to Barcelona, but the most frequent mentioned Arsenal target is Mark Schwarzer.
Since the Daily Mirror first mentioned the rumour back in May, way down in one of the endlessly repetitive Fábregas articles, Schwarzer has been linked with Arsenal a whopping 136 times!! And that's NOT counting all the truly bull---t websites that I choose not to link to...
Two of the Schwarzer links come from the Sun's website only today, two from the Evening Standard - so not only Squillaci is put on repeat. In fact, 40 of the media stories linking the Australian international with Arsenal has been published the last week...
If and when he finally signs... I'll be relieved to have only half as much work to do with this blog.
