For years and years, Patrick Vieira was on his way out of Highbury. The last few summers, Cesc Fàbregas have been sold to Spain umpteen times. It continues in 2010...
This story is typical in that respect. It stems from one of the Spanish sports newspapers, in this case El Mundo Deportivo. The closest to a source are "friends" of the footballer in question. It quickly repeats the details of Fàbregas' past in the Barcelona youth team. There's a wild speculation of how much the La Liga giants are willing to pay. And finally, another player is set to be the makeweight in a part/exchange deal.
It's a classic. The other stories linking to this one also carry quotes from Cesc: a fairly innocent comment about not wanting to play in the World Cup without knowing where he'll play next season. But the Arsenal captain also says, like MANY times before, that he one day wants to play for Barcelona, but that there's NO hurry.
And, lo and behold, the "serious" English newspapers throw themselves on the bandwagon. This very weakly founded story finds its way into the Times and the Guardian. In the Daily Mail, Cesc the quotes are twisted to say that he'll "decide his Arsenal future" before the World Cup himself. The Independent even has the gall to suggest that it's the first time Cesc says that if he leaves Arsenal, it will be for Barcelona!!
