Andrei Arshavin is set to move on loan to Zenit St. Petersburg. The Russia captain confirms as much on his personal website, and confirmation from Arsenal soon followed.
According to Sky Sports, he rejoins the club from where Arsenal bought him on a loan for the rest of the English season.
Arshavin has made 27 first-team appearances this season, mostly as a substitute. While his recent form hs been criticized by most fans, he's contributed with a set of assists which has showed his class - the latest against Sunderland in the Premier League 2-1 away win. His only goal of the season was the deciding - and flukish - 1-0 goal at home to Swansea.
His final appearance in an Arsenal shirt this season was in the Reserves, scoring two goals as Norwich Reserves were demolished 5-0.
In today's press conference, manager Arsène Wenger was cagy when asked of Arshavin's possible loan move, saying it wasn't happening "at the moment". Several reports have suggested that Zenit's approach to the deal have made negotiations harder.
In the end, Arshavin's own wish to regain top form before appearing for Russia in Euro 2012 looks to have swayed Arsenal to let him leave.
