A kind of comfort

The current Silly Season is trudging along, with no particular rumour of an incoming player singling itself out. The contract talks of Robin van Persie - if any - dominates the vague rumours of Arsenal players leaving.

The one side of business which isn't usual at Arsenal is the sudden flow of statements from majority owner and board member Stan Kroenke. It's a kind of comfort to hear him stating and repeating what the club has already said for years.

The club's and owners' dedication to sustainable football is hotly debated among fans and in the media. But Kroenke refuses to be a sugar daddy, and wouldn't recommend other club getting one either:

"What you are doing is that you are putting the focus on one person, one resource and is that really in the interests of a long-term situation for a great club that many people identify with and rely on?"

Kroenke isn't just inspiring fans either. The captain was suitably impressed.

Stability and long term thinking will always be for the good. As for the transfer business, we should be happy to know that the same principles apply there.
