Nasri, confirmed

Arsenal confirm that a fee has been agreed with Manchester City for Samir Nasri. With that, the second longest transfer saga this Silly Season concludes. Only an unknown medical problem will keep the transfer from going through.

Perhaps the threat of playing him tomorrow night in the Champions League qualifiers got the transfer fee up a notch or two. Whichever way, fantasy sums are now being added up by blogs and newspapers trying to quantify Arsenal's war chest. Incoming fees from Nasri, Cesc Fàbregas and Gaël Clichy - hey, even Emmanuel Eboue! - are added to what was the speculated transfer budget in May.

Only after tomorrow night in Udine will we get to see any of it spent, is my opinion. A defeat, and the following Europa League campaign, will be a huge financial loss in addition to the downturn in sporting fortunes.

But any remaining calculation will still be breeding ground for rumours, through this transfer window and beyond.
