An echo with an Italian accent

So many Gooners and football commentators have castigated Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger for what seems to be unwillingness to spend money. His outspoken misgivings about signing for signings' own sake is supported today by England manager Fabio Capello.

"I think Arsenal have got money but it's difficult to find top players to improve the team. Because if you spend the money buying normal players, it's not good, you need to spend money to improve the team."

Capello spoke on Goals on Sunday on Sky Sports television. He praised Wenger's qualities and spoke of their good relationship. But six years without a trophy is difficult for a club of Arsenal's stature, in his opinion.

And Wenger's experienced colleague had a word of warning:

"I think he needs to buy some new players, some important players, but it's difficult to find top players at this moment, because the best players are playing with important teams, teams who want to win."
