Gervinho has joined Arsenal from French champions Lille OSC, the club has finally confirmed.
The Ivory Coast striker has been watched by Arsenal for several years, even before he joined Lille from Le Mans two years ago. In the last league-winning season, Gervinho scored 15 goals in 40 games, mostly playing off the main striker.
The first rumour mentioning this Arsenal connection was in the Daily Mail last year, who reported that his World Cup 2010 performances against Portugal and Brazil had caught the eye of Birmingham City.
In this Silly Season, however, the first mention of Gervinho to Arsenal came in the Daily Express on 20 May, quoting ever elusive 'sources in France'. Well, this time it has all gone through, and their reporter Matt Law earns a point.
The move now hinges on the last parts of the bureaucratic process. Manager Arsène Wenger also confirmed in Kuala Lumpur today that Gervinho signed on Thursday and reported for pre-season at London Colney today.
