Every stone is turned, every quote is churned

You should think that the Silly Season died down a bit during the World Cup. That players, managers and fans were focused on the fight for the trophy, and not on the fight for the better deal.

Well, think again. When Arsène Wenger arrived in South Africa and started answering questions, it began feeding the media no end.

First all the Joe Cole links, underlined by Wenger's stated admiration for the free agent's abilities. Today it's Steven Pienaar of Everton, the most important player of the host nation's team in South Africa.

An interview with Sky Sports News, where Wenger admitted that Pienaar was one of the better players in the Premier League, have had all kinds of papers and website in a feverish state today. Among those linking Pienaar to an Arsenal bid are the Guardian, the Daily Express, the Daily Mail...

And the Daily Mail did it even twice today, Wenger was caught saying nice things about an Algerian defender, too.

But it isn't necessarily the nice ones we need...?
